Principles and Current Established System
The basic Saudi principles are all found in the Qur'an and the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad. The fundamental principles include having faith in God, praying, charity, fasting, and making a pilgrimage to Mecca, all of which are called the Five Pillars of Islam. Saudi Arabia upholds the traditions of Islam by requiring fasting during Ramadan, submission to god, and paying the alms tax. Saudi Arabia also allows millions of visitors from foreign countries into the country for the Hajj, or the annual pilgrimage to Mecca. All Five Pillars of Islam are used in Saudi Arabia to maintain the theocracy the country has built.
The current established system was created in 1992 and approved by the King which states both the Qur'an and the Sunnah of the Prophet of Muhammad are the nation's constitution. Many excerpts can be found in the Basic Law, Saudi Arabia's Constitution, of both books. The two readings are emphasized in the nation's constitution to uphold the Islamic State and make sure citizens know the importance of their values and roles.
The U.S., however, does not have an established religion, as the First Amendment states that there will be no entanglement with religion and the government. Instead, the principles of the United States are based on independence, freedom, and equality, after being colonies of Great Britain for centuries.
